| ![]() Hi All! Do you mind if I ask a non-Yorkie question? I have a friend who had Chihuahua puppies, they all did great, but the Mom is in heat again. The problem is, she kept one of the males, so its her son, who just mated his mom ![]() ![]() ![]() Sure is gross to me, but what I'm worried about is if they did, are the puppies going to be OK? I didn't think a 8 month old could mate, but he did. I told her to call her Vet first thing in the morning, and for now keep them is different rooms. Poor little furbabies, I hope they are gong to be OK. Thanks, Gina

| ![]() Gina The question you ask about..is like a loaded gun. Inbreeding is done by some that are trying to product a dog with the qualities they like (try for the perfect dog).. But, It can bring out the best and the worst in the litter. And some bad gentic flaws and health problems. This should never be done by anyone who doesn't know everything in the dogs background. Case in point..I didn't know much about gentic, when I bought my first male for breeding.. I bought a 5 month old ..this dog had a showdog strut and great looks. After I paid for the dog, I was handed a 5 gen pedigree that showed half brother and half sister were breed together. I ask about this and was told everything would be fine, there was nothing bad in the lines. I had the dog two months and he started having severe seizures. Cost me 500 on top of what I gave for him to get him lined out. I then gave him away to a good home because he could not be used for breeding. The breeder IMO didn't have a clue as to what she was doing. If you friends dog is pregnant I wish her the best but tell her to be prepared for the worst too. |

| ![]() there wont be anything that the vet can do as they dont make P.G tests for dogs and they wont beable to tell on an xray until like 43-45 days then the option would be to have her spayed if she is P.G. I hope the best for your friend and that she isnt P.G. Keep us posted

| ![]() Only time will tell. But if she ends up having the puppies. Just have her keep a close eye on them for congenital disorders. We'll keep her in our prayers and thoughts. ![]()

| ![]() Inbreeding has been done alot in the past to "prefect" a breed. In ways this was good, in ways it was bad. Inbreeding is why so many dogs to day have the problems that they do (like big dogs being so prone to hip problems). however, I would guess that the pups would be fine unless there was some recessive genetic trate that didn't show up in mom or the son (dad & 1/2 brother to the babies). And as long as the rest of the family tree doesn't go around and around in circles.

| ![]() Thanks all for your help!!! I was so upset, you have no idea. When my friend had her first litter, she had NO idea what she was doing. Not a clue about the tests that needed to be done before she breed. They just put two furbabies together and, oh what cute little puppies! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well it turns out she is not pregnant!!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I talked to her about breeding, well as much as I could. And all the research that HAS to be done before you decide to breed. How it is not fair to put her baby at risk like that. When I told her she could loose her, she cried. I felt so bad. I guess some people think all you have to do is let them have babies on their own, and everything will be ok. It's so sad. Anyway, I talked her into having her baby spayed. We took her to my Vet, and they are going to do it on Monday. I told her I would pay the bills, because I know if I didn't she wouldn't have it done. This has been so stressful for me. I don't know how you all do it. As for the male, he found a new home, and was taken in last week. There has been so many threads on breeding. Should they breed, why they want to, I'm just so confused. No I don't breed, and never plan to, but you would think one would want to study what they are doing, before they do it. It's just not opening a book, it takes a long time to learn all you need to know. Yes, you have to learn somewhere, but putting furbabies at risk is wrong. It's so sad, Anyway, Thank you all for being here ![]()
