| That's wonderful. I thought the three slideshows did a great job explaining the need for genetic diversity. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Another great job done by concerned breeders and committed fanciers of the Poodle breed. It is not so easy to get a lot of folks to submit samples and send them in. We need volunteers to gently remind folks - or to make it easy to get the DNA submitted like having it collected at a National. How wonderfull that Poodle breeders will now have a way of moving forward to improve the genetic diversity with in their breed. How great that I would be able to DNA test all my puppies and make a more informed choice of which dogs I want to leave intact and which dogs can be safely neutered. By safely I mean keeping the gene pool diverse enough. But all this is going to make our jobs our passion a tad more complicated. There is an old timer breeder saying - don't throw out the baby with the bath water! Maybe the old timers had it right! And so this dog does not have a head that is great - or a coat too soft - but structurally everywhere else is just fine. But they have a unique set of genes - ones we want to keep in our breed. I remember a few weeks ago discussing with Jean - Magics breeder that I disposed of his frozen sperm - so I would never be tempted to use it. She said are you sure you did that? I said yes - because I would be tempted over and over again to use him at stud due to his sterling working qualities. And she said I know - he is such a fine BRT. It just breaks performance breeders hearts to not breed such a working ability. But again another old fashioned breeders aphorism - 3 strikes and you are out. That means 3 major faults and or health issues or any combo there of. I believe that I made the right decision; still in my dreams I sometimes see Magics pups running wildly in the wind.......
