Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Congratulations wow, 6, that is a lot of pups , Right after whelping you shuld start , and depends of what calcium supplement you are using I am using Animed Di Cal and My Delilah had 4 girls yesterday, she is getting 2 teaspoons a day, one in the morning with her breakfast and 1 with her before bed meal, also she should be getting at least 4 helpings of whelping pudding a day.. Calcium is VERY important during and after whelping until the pups are wean..Also is VERY important to give her the right calcium , it should a calcium and phosphorus combination to be very effective. Before using the Di Cal I used Doc Roys Bone tabs, very good also. Again congrats and can't wait to see your pups. hugs, |

| I had had litters before and i am not too fond of those supplements my self, i respect who loves them, but if a rich and nutritious diet is given, the artificial supplements may not be needed. Do not misunderstand, if needed i would use it. I like to add a tablespoon of cottage cheese twice a day and stick to a premium brand of excellent food. It seems to cover all the nutritious needs. I always have a tube of "oralcal" calcium supplement on hand, but it ends up expiring before i would use it. Through the years i gave "tums" , half of it daily, and i gave nothing. What i find that works best is an excellent nutrition with well balanced ingredients and as natural as possible. I love the cottage cheese as it helps in the milk production, they like to eat it and it is easy to get it. I am sure you will take your own conclusions and do what it is best for your dogs. Blessings. xoxo

| Congratulation on your new litter. I have been raising yorkies for 15 years and I know from experience that a good calcium supplement is essential. I use Doc Roy's Healthy Bones from Revival. Pet-cal is also a good one. She should have been started on the calcium as soon as the pups were born. Please talk to your vet and seek advice from him as to what to use. I don't recommend the Tums since they don't have the phosphorus in them. How big is the mother? It is essential that she eats about 3 or 4 big meals a day. I feel a good quality puppy food is essential. You can add some canned food if she prefers to eat it that way.
