OK give it to me straight. I have thought about breeding my baby. He has such a sweet personality and is very smart. Of course the babies would only be pet quality pets. As long as that is told up front and their is a limited registration put on them what would be the harm? We have a family member who would love to have one. We also have another family member that has an adorable little girl. SOO what would be the harm in breeding them? Any help would be really great. Thanks in advance.

This has been argued so many times, it's redundant. You should NOT breed this fault...or any major fault. More to come...keep watching!

Limited registration means that you were instructed by the breeder not to breed these dogs. There is probably a very good reason for that and the honorable thing to do is abide by the agreement made.

While we're at it, I know someone here in town that bred her bitch with an overbite (close to 1 inch difference) to a male that was much larger than her (outside the breed standard on weight) has long legs, poor hair quality and is roached back. NO ONE sees these puppies' parents when she sells them but she sells them for the going rate with FULL registration...and NO, I'm not making it up.

I dont think she was instructed by her breeder not to breed him if i read this correctly.
Do not breed him if he has a major fault. plain and simple.

It's horrible and out of 2 litters, only 1 came out with the roached back. But all of those other pups are carrying those genes...so when will it happen again when those are bred.

It's disgusting.

People like that do just throw 2 dogs together. BYB at it's best!

You are so right. and of course they are all carrying the genes.
i just wanted to say one more thing about roach backs while i'm here....pictures do not always tell all. they can be very "off" to the naked eye. seeing a dog in person is the only way to be sure on certain things...I was told a while back by a very well respected breeder on this forum that one of my dog's appeared to have a roach back....i just said, no and went on with my business, because in fact she had a dead on top line. So you see, this lady selling these pups with the roach backs and bad hair could show a pic of a good dog that looks bad or a bad dog that looks good and no one would know...so sad.

oops, I think I misread...even if the dogs involved are full registration there are many ethical questions that need answering before making this choice.

Oh no i meant if limited registration was put on the pups that he might have. My dogs parents didn't hvae the roach back. He is only 4.5 months and sometimes i see it and sometimes I don't. So I am not sure that he def has it. I had no idea what a roach back was till coming here. So go easy on me lol.

Just because you put a limited on the pups doesnt mean someone couldnt register with another registry and breed them anyway. i'm going easy on you...lol i'm just trying to answer your question as best i can.

The reason to breed is to better the breed. That should be your goal. You need to have someone reputable with experience evaluate your puppy and tell you if he is a good candidate to breed. If not, you would want to invest in another of quality. You will still get pet quality pups but the foundation dog should be of sound structure, health, and mind. To breed so friends and family can have a Yorkie is NOT a good reason to bring life into this world. There are many rescues and unwanted pets as it is. I would advise your friends and family to save one of those darlings.

Please be honeset with yourself and look into this carefully.
