| Breeding questions for Dam Hello all and Happy Holidays!!!!!! Are there any tests that can be done to see if a female is more apt to whelp a litter naturally as opposed to C-section. Also I have noticed the many breeders pair a smaller male to the size of a female. In most other breeds the male is larger, why is this so? And last, what kinds of testing MUST be done on the female pre breeding if the breeding may be either artificial or natural. |

| Welcome! My suggestion to you is find a good mentor. Go to a dog show and start making contacts. Breeding is not something to go into lightly, and it really does require a lot of studying on your part.

Breeding a female to a smaller male is a misnomer in the yorkie breed. Your best indicator again, is knowing the dogs lines. However, the bitch controls the size of the pup while in utero....the size of the pup at birth is by no means an indicator as to what it will be at adult size. The tests prior to breeding are multiple and costly whether AI or Natural. The tests should be performed on the bitch and stud........ As stated above, before embarking on the breeding journey, find a mentor and emerse yourself in the breed.
