| Pregnant mama won't eat puppyfood Ok, so this is my (and my little mama-to-be's) first time having puppies. I've read everywhere and my vet has told me to feed her puppy food so she will gain proper weight and the puppies will get the nutrients they need and what not. Well, I have one picky girl on my hands and I don't know what to do * btw, she is one month pregnant today and has not gained any weight* We have fed her three different types of puppy food trying to find the one she likes. She started off with Science Diet until we realized that it was actually crap (she didn't like it anyway). Then we switched her to Wellness Super5 Mix puppy. She only eats a few pieces and has had no interest since. Finally, Blue Buffalo was our choice, and same thing, no interest whatsoever. I know she has an appetite because she wants to eat her regular food (Wellness Core) and she also tries to eat my boyfriend's brother's dog's food. I'm not sure how to get her to eat puppy food or what other options I have so her and the puppies will get what they need. I am going to call our vet tomorrow, but was just wanted some thoughts from some experienced yorkie parents out there. Thanks for any advice that is offered. |

| Why not just leave her on the Wellness core? It's a quality food with a high meat/protein content, which is what she needs at this time. I hear the thing about puppy food all the time and it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. There's nothing magical about 'puppy food' that makes it automatically better than a quality food. It's all about the protein, fat and fiber content and that can vary widely among puppy foods just as in other foods. Generally, puppy foods have a somewhat higher fat content than adult formulas, but again, that varies with brands. Most better dog foods are all life stages and all the designations some brands use are mostly just marketing. I'm not sure about the Core being all life stages but it is a quality food with quality ingredients and I wouldn't change if she will eat it.

| That's what we went on is the Wellness Core. Shayna seems to love it.. Now if I can keep her sister out of it. |

| thanks for everyone's posts so far. yes I have tried mixing the food together with her regular food along with canned food and she just picks out what she likes and leaves the puppy food. we have tried everything we can think and we're stumped. |
