| help! In labor and won't stop barking Hi, My yorkie's temp. dropped last afternoon, she was restless all night, is panting and will not stop trying to get under the bed. I've tried to get her to nest in her nesting box I made for her, in another box, in the closet with towels, in the bathroom... I created a calm, dim environment in all of those spots. I'm trying to get her to relax, however, she will not stop barking at me because she wants under the bed. I don't know what to do. |

| How is she doing now? Have you seen her having any hard contractions? Some females do panic when the labor starts. Can you sit on the bed with her and get her to relax? I never try to force any of mine to stay in the whelping box until they are pushing hard. When I have one in labor I just cover my bed with an old comforter and we just hang out on the bed. Once the hard labor starts I move a big whelping wicker basket on the bed and put momma in it. Usually once the first puppy is born the momma will settle down and stay put. Once the pups are all born then I move the momma and babies to the whelping box. I pray you have a safe whelping. |

| Yeah, I gave up on the whelping box for now. I have her on my bed. She stopped panting a little while ago and took a couple of quick naps. She still whines a little and scratches at the sheets for about two seconds once in a while. Thanks for your help. I wish the puppies would come already! I think it has already been 12 hours since her temp. dropped and probably 10 hours since she started acting funny. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh that's sad, it sounds like she wants to find an area where she feels safe. Dog in pain are worried about predators and like to find a safe spot when they feel pain. Is this your first litter, do you have a mentor? I wonder if there was any way to make the whelping area more acceptable to her? Sending prayers your way, hope everything goes well. I know of one breeder who says that playing classical music helps settle the girl down.
