| ![]() okay, this is kind of a long story so bear with me. My girl had 5 puppies about 11 weeks ago and about 2 weeks ago the little girl started getting lethargic and having diarrhea but it wasn't that bad and she was still eating and drinking fine. her rear end was kind of swollen as well. so I ended up taking her to the vet mainly because of the diarrhea and they gave me medicine for it and told me just to watch her closely to make sure it wasn't parvo. she did fine the rest of the day, eating and drinking good. the next morning I woke up and she was just laying on her side totally unresponsive and when I picked her up, she was completely limp, she couldn't even hold her head up. I rushed her to the vet, they stabilized her, and said that her blood sugar was low. they did the parvo test and a fecal and both came back negative so they sent me home. I had been giving her the medicine for the diarrhea for about a week but it wasn't getting better and her rear end just kept getting more swollen and red. so I took her back again to a different vet and they said that it is no big deal and it was only because of the diarrhea (she was also always trying to poop with very little coming out). he said that she probably just wasn't responding to the other medicine, so he gave me different medicine for the diarrhea. it has been about 3 days since then and every single day she is always waddling around trying to poop but nothing really comes out, and when it does it is very soft. she also always tries to bite at her rear end and I can tell that it hurts. it is very very swollen and sometimes bleeds just a little. she eats and drinks plenty of water. I don't know what is wrong or why it won't get any better and the vets just keep telling me that its no big deal. her tummy isn't big so I don't think she is constipated but she does act like it with the way she poops. please, I don't know what else to do, I really need some advice... thanks Kara |

| ![]() When your vet did the fecal, did she/he do a snap for giardia.... It sounds a lot like a gastro-intestinal issue and giardia generally shows those type symptoms.... Dehydration is the biggest issue you need to be aware of... Give her plenty of Pedialyght as it has calories and will help with both loss of fluid and an upswing of calories (I use a syringe).... A lot of things are happening at 10 / 11 weeks with regard to overall function, so there maybe other issues.... Also, treat the hinny with desiten for infants.... helps a lot! | ![]() What are they giving for the diarrhea? I am not sure I would change vets, because you don't want to start over. I think I would call the vet and say ok, now what? This med is not helping. What is the puppy eating?

| ![]() she is eating Royal Canine and has been eating that alone. I will try the gas drops. what kind of antibiotic cream should I put on it? she isn't really having diarrhea, it is just soft. yes they checked for Giardia plus the medicine she is taking treats that on the side anyways. she is taking Metronidazole. since it is not really diarrhea, I don't really know why she acts like she has to go all the time. oh, and last time I was at the vet, he expressed her anal glands and said they were a little full but the problem has gotten any better. |

| ![]() Poor baby. I wonder if she could have a fungal infection or something that the metro would not cover? How long has she been on the med?

| ![]() it sounds like she has coccidia thats usually what they do when they get this do you have a tractors supply? if you do go get some Tylan 50 and give her about a 1/4 of a cc orally and this will take care of it. Or you can get this at revivalanimal.com]Pet Supplies | Dog & Cat Supplies | Vaccines | Revival Animal Health[/url] and if you put panalog on her little but it will heal it right up

| ![]() Im so sorry this had to happen.. (im a newbie) so i wont have alot of advise, i guess just the common put some desitine on her hinny, it should make it better if its just burnt from her pooping since its soft it will irritate her and make her feel unconfortable. Please keep us updated, wishing you and your pups the best, |

she has been on the medicine now for about 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to be getting any better at all. it's like when she poops and she is walking around, little bits drop all over the place but that is all that comes out, just little bits. | |

| ![]() the tylan 50 also helps with bactrial infections as well you can get the panalog from American eagle breeders you have to call them at 1-800-286-4849 they have a specialist there they migt have some idea's as well for you puppy or you can call dr. Miller from the univercity of cornel and he can help you he is a yorkie specialist his phone # is 516-449-4698 there is also ask a vet online you have to stop the diahrea or she will keep getting hypogloxcimic and dehydrate try 2cc's of regluar people kayo pectate thats what i use with the Tylan 50 Orally and it goes right away the tylan 50 say's injectable but you can also give it orally you also need to take the food away for at least 8hrs and just give her pedialight or G2 thats just like gatoraid then start her out with a bland diet of cooked rice with a little boiled chcken breast but give it to her slowly a little at a time

| ![]() I really recommend you get the pup to another vet. The pup could have a anal gland infection, among other problems. What is the pup eating? |

| ![]() I wouldn't go getting more antibiotics and anti diarrheal stuff without the advice of a vet. She could have something physically wrong with her intestines or anal glands and since she has been on metro for two weeks you could do more harm than good. Even putting neosporin on her sore bottom could mess up tests the vet wanted to run.

| ![]() your right maybe i should not give her any suggestions i haven't seen the dog this is just what i do i have been breeding yorkies for over 26yrs and i have always had good luck with this. And when you have a dog tested for Giardia it doean't always come up possitive the first time for some reason and when they do it again it does
