| ![]() Sophie had her babies on Oct 25 .She has six 2 girls 4 boys. Anyhow the reason why I am posted is because of the runt he weighed 2.4 ounces. He is not doing well he sounded congested. I took him to the dr to see what he thought. The Vet gave him a shot and now he is on antibiotic's. I bottle and Sophie nurses him and he now is 3.0 ounces. I thought he would be getting better by now. He looks like he is struggling to breath. I am checking on him like crazy because I am afraid of him passing away. The rest of the puppies have doubled their weight and are doing awesome and wondering why and how long my runt will struggle. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...r/IMG_8728.jpg |

when you bottle does milk come out of his nose? The milk should drip out slowly when the bottle is held upside down. If it runs out the pup could choke or aspirate (breath in) the milk. do not hold pup laying on its back and let it feed from bottle, make sure its always on its tummy. and never feed a cold pup. did you vet check the pup for a cleft palate? I would also be giving this baby nutri drops. what did the vet say about it?

| ![]() I just noticed the picture. boy it is little compared to its litter mates. I would watch close each feeding making sure it gets its share and not get pushed out by the others.dose he latch on good? funny how they are all Yorkie colors and none turned out looking like her. their very cute shes adorable too. |

| ![]() I agree. With my tiny one I gave Nutri-Drops every 4 hours (just a little drop on the tongue), then put that puppy on the back nipples where the most milk is. Let the tiny one nurse as long as it will before putting the other puppies back in with the mom. I also gave a dose of Benebac, which seemed to help as well. I'm sure you are worried. Good luck.

I am doing both because if Sophie is feeding the other puppies the runt gets pushed off. I bring Sophie out of her box and let her be alone with the runt. Milk has came out his nose but not that often. My vet said no cleft palate. I wished I knew about not feeding a cold puppy on the first few days I can't help to think that is why is sick? I will call the vet and ask about the drops in the morning. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED

| ![]() Is the puppy warm now? If not, you can gradually warm it with a heating pad with a towel or blanket wrapped around it. It must be done gradually though, and they can become dehydrated if they get too warm. Once you know the puppy is warm, try nursing again. I would set my alarm and check the puppy every 2 hours to make sure it is warm and to let it latch on to one of the back nipples. Take those little fatties off the back nipples and protect the space for this little puppy or remove the other puppies to a warming box until you are sure this tiny one has eaten as much as it can. Is the puppy's tummy full and round, or is it flat and skinny?

Daddy was a full blood yorkie and Sophie is yorkiepoo. I have posted photos of her as a baby and the daddy also. For the record for all that do this all the time my hats are off to you. This was my fast and it will be my last. This has been too emotional.

| ![]() Newborn puppies are not yet able to regulate their own body temperatures and feeding a cold puppy will do more harm than good as they can not digest it when cold. Keep puppy on a heating pad covered by a towel. I prefer Lectro pads. The puppy's temperature should be around 97 degrees. Never feed a puppy who is 94 degrees or lower.warm them up first. |

did the vet hear that he was congested? what did he say about that. I think the best right now is to keep it warm and make sure its getting full from momma only, and let it eat first.

| ![]() why do you think its constipated? is it crying or is its tummy really hard? I don't know if the antibiotics cause constipation or not. but do know the mommy cleans them up pretty fast so its easy to miss. I would keep a good eye on it and if you don't think its going to poo Id call the vet. you can also stimulate the pup Take a cloth with warm water and rub the area thoroughly right after it feeds. but momma dog normally does this by licking them. |

I think I am over thinking his heath because I think he is sick because I did not know about the heat issue. I love this little guy and want him to do well. The other puppies are getting so big and doing so well. I wish he did not have it so hard.
