| How long should stage 2 labor last From reading Debbie Jenson's site she seems to be in stage 2 labor. She's panting lightly and resting in between, licking herself and seems to be having mild contractions. She's pushs a little then she goes to sleep will get back up in 20-30 minutes and do it again. She doesn't seem to be in any kind of distress, its just taking so long. She's been acting this was since 8:45 a.m and it is now 3:15 p.m. She doesn't seem to be having any "hard" contractions, grunting and pushing (all signs of hard labor). When should she get to the hard labor stage? Right now she is asleep again.. Oh' and I did notice a little bit of blood come out of her vagina..

| Is this her first litter? How big is she? Some females just take longer than others so it is hard to set a specific length of time. A lot depends on the size of the pup too. The female has to be able to dilate enough to push the baby out. I would think she would be getting very close. Are you feeling any bulge in the vagina yet? Usually once the hard pushing starts they should have a pup within an hour. You might want to get a emergency vet lined up just in case. I pray you momma has a safe whelping. Please keep us posted. |

| Was it a dark red blood or did it seen like look more like water broke. If that happened with no pup, off to the vet...like yesterday. I'm not sure what the bleeding could be but that doesn't sound quite right. Maybe something is tearing. I know with the water break, a little blood could be mixed with that. But just red blood, hmmmm, don't think that's good at all. She may be retaining a puppy, maybe too big. If that is the case, the other pups are in grave danger. Please post and let us know what the vet says. I hope little Mommy is OK I'll be looking for your updates Carol and Jemma Last edited by Jemma; 06-02-2009 at 05:01 PM. |

| I'm worried too...told the OP that blood is NOT normal (she had another thread, but in the wrong section, so she started another one in the breeder's section). Hope she took her baby to the vet.

| Thank you all that responded... But I lost my baby girl , this is just too much for me to handle, I can't believe she is gone, I'm still in shock. I took her to the vet and she did an immediate C-section, the baby was positioned wrong, the doctor was able to save the one and only baby, a boy. Now I need to keep him alive. I don't know what to think or say but I just hope I can keep him alive now..
