dew-claw removal vet recommendation? I have a friend that took her puppy to the vet to have it's tail docked and dew-claws removed and the vet said that it didn't want to remove the dew-claws as they were too fleshy and needed to come back in a day or two to have them removed. What do you suppose this means? I would think that you would want to remove them before they started forming the bone for the claw? Also, those that do remove your own puppies dew-claws and tails how soon is too soon to do this? Thanks Deb

I dont like the idea of having to take the puppies to the vet twice. Maybe she needs to ask another vets opinion.

Same here. I wouldn't want to take my puppies out twice. That is one of the reasons that I am thinking about doing my own puppies this time. That is if I have the courage. haha I just didn't understand why you wouldn't remove the dew-claw when it it was just skin.

I do it the same day as well, on the 3rd day. I dunno why they would want to wait....but I wouldn't want to put the babies through it twice!
