Did I do it right?? I'm a little sad- we just gave one of our puppies to their new home. I am not quite sure if I did things the right way though. They have ALWAYS been with their momma since day 1, so this morning, I put the mom and the other puppy in a room after they had played for a bit, and kept the sold puppy with us in the living room for about 2 hours before he went to his new home. So, did I do this right? How do you "wean" them away from each other? Should I have kept them separated for much longer? (Days/weeks?) I guess being pregnant myself makes me really emotional about a momma being away from her baby!

I know it is always worrisome when you have to send a baby off to it's new home. I do not separate them from mom or siblings. I just let them enjoy their time together. I think it is much more stressful on mom and babies keeping them separated. Hopefully your baby will do just fine in his new home.

I personally don't believe there is a right or wrong way. It is always hard...regardless. I do keep the mommy with us while prospective buyers are looking and/or playing with the puppy. The mommy will usually try to follow the buyers out the door, I know she is wondering what is going on with her baby. But for me, I would rather her see what is going on than not being able to see. Everybody has their own way of doing things, and whatever works for you, is the right way. I'm not pregnant and still get emotional when one of my puppies goes to their forever home, I just get so attached. cheryl Last edited by clm56; 02-09-2009 at 09:21 AM.
