When they call and want to see the puppies right away???

Ok so am I paranoid to feel uncomfortable and suspicious when some potential buyers call me about the puppies and want to come to see them right away?

Even if I am home and available when they call me, I like to book an appointment for the next day hoping that if they had bad intention... they might just move on...

Sometime ,I ask if I can call them back and take there names and numbers... I think it is safer that way.

There is so many weirdos out there.

Am I being paranoid or?

~No your not being paranoid, can never be too safe. I will let people come right out to look at my puppies, but always make sure husband or grown son is home. I always try to feel out potential buyer over the phone. There is nothing wrong with making an appt. for next day either. Always do what makes you comfortable - Good Luck!!

Coming from a buyers point of view. Sometimes the buyer gets excited and wants to see the puppy and play with it!! It is a new PUPPY after all.

i seen a show on tv some kind of cops show.
the people were selling yorkie puppies and had a guy come to look at them well the guy held up the family and took all there puppies and they were putting them in a sack it was awfull the whole famly was there

In this ever troubling world jobs down, crime is up I would expect breeders to be very cautious. Imposing rules boundaries and limitations is to be expected. If we do that with our animals then we should do that with our selves. Rules, what time do you show your puppies do you show one or let them all just bounce around? Are you home alone or is another person there.? Boundaries, they are your puppies and you set the appointment yes be flexable yet don't let them tell you 9pm is a good time for them. Limitations, ever have a bad feeling about something go with it. Have you ever talked to someone and they want to see a puppy when they pull up they have a car full of people with them. You have the right to know who is coming to your house. Being safe is not saying everyone is bad it is just saying in all things in life just be cautions.

I think the appointment book is the best way to go about it, you have to protect yourself, and your furbabies.

As a buyer, i would understand that breeders are very busy, and as long as i got the see the new puppies, the dam, the living conditions, and a few of the other yorkies living there (with out handling the dogs, only the puppies if they had there shots). I dont think making an appointment is a bad idea. I would always have a friend or my husband there to help keep an eye on all of the furbabies (counting heads, if you will ) You need to feel comforable, and your buyers need to feel comforable too, but need to be respectful coming in to your home.

I will never show a puppy unless my husband is home. I get freaked out thinking they are going to rob me.

Well I AM paranoid a bit LOL and here is my suggestion:

I meet them at my vets office. It is a safe, clean . If they are very young (Florida weather) then I do not allow them to hold the babies. I will hold them at all angles. :-) Also if anyone holds mom or dad and the pups are older I always bring hand sanitizer. No one has ever had a problem with it and fully understands. My mentor that has bred for 25 years lost her 2 prize studs and one puppy because someone came over under the pretense of looking at the babies. Several days later they came back, kicked in the door and stole the dogs. She did file a complaint but it was never "proven". This was the only person she had allowed to come over to see that current litter. Coincidence?? Maybe... but I doubt it. Anyway each breeder has their own comfort levels. Mine is that one... I have had many compliments on how professional I was and all my paperwork is kept in a nice leather briefcase in folder. (I am a paperwork fanatic and neat freak) Deposits are made and copies of the deposits/receipts etc are sent home with the buyer. Then I send them pictures every week of their baby (more often if they chose, but usually they chose once a week). We meet again to give the babies their shots and Florida Health Certs. Works out great. In the meantime I get emails and phone calls and we correspond as much as needed. Hope that helps.. Just another option! Everyone has their opinions . I have 3 right now out of 6 puppies of my current litter that have deposits and 2 were done the day I took them to get their dews and tails done :-)

I can see how the buyer would be excited to come and see the puppy right away , but I think having some rules and booking a next day appointment is fine. I just know when I was looking I was so excited I wanted to see the puppies right away.

Does'nt hurt to be cautious. In this day and age, you can never be to sure of someone, even if they do sound genuine over the phone. I would hope that you at least try to have someone with you when potential buyers want to see your pups. Better safe than sorry

I wouldn't want a buyer who was making an impulse decision, I had to wait several weeks before I could see Joey, it didn't make me want to rush out and find another breeder. I knew she was the one.

Well, I have to admit I would be the one wanting to come see them right away. When I got Gracie I had been wanting a Yorkie for over a year. After looking on and off for quite a while I decided to start seriously looking for one. When I saw her picture I was so excited and wanted to go look at her immediately. There just are not as many Yorkies for sale in our state as some of the others so I did not want to take a chance of someone else buying her before I had a chance to see her. Even though it may take me some thought before making a decision, once I do, I want it now. Just me.

On the other hand from your point of view it doesn't hurt to be careful. One thought would be to tell them you have an appointment but could possibly reschedule and call them back. If they refuse to give you a contact number then I would be suspicious. Once they are there and conversing you can get a feeling about a person. You can casually ask them questions that would indicate how much thought they have put into getting a puppy etc. I agree with others though and would always have someone else there with me. Too many weirdo's out there these days.
