Roxie first litter, help

I am a first time breeder, and I am scared to death of my momma and her babies. Roxie is 6 weeks along and she still jumps, leaps off anything. I try to control this, but can't she is just so fast. My concern is she or the pups in any danger due to her jumping on and off everything? Thanks

Yes, they can be injured this way. You also want to make sure she does not hurt herself in a way that is going to require surgery while she is pregnant. I would recommend using an ex-pen or a baby-gate to keep her in a room like a bathroom or laundry room to stop her from jumping on and off things.

I will also say don't freak out about the jumping she has been doing already, no need to worry about what has happened. The puppies can also be just fine with the leaping on and off stuff (but why risk it). I had a bitch scale a 5 foot chainlink fence and jump from the top at 5 weeks pregnant (she was a bitch I had leased, I did not know she was a fence climber, she was actually trying to get to me while I was training another dog in agility a couple hundred feet away in another fenced area) and the puppies were fine. But after that, she was let out only on a flexi leash.

I do recommend you do all you can to keep her calm. A little jumping on and off furniture will not hurt her but if she takes a fall then it could. I am not too sure about trying to pen her up if she is not used to that. Some females when penned up will start jumping up and down trying to get out and that can be very damaging to the unborn puppies and cause premature labor. I have a foot stool by my couch so most of my dogs use that going up and down.

Thanks for your help! I cant cage her bc she has always been by my side and sleeps with me, but I am trying to limit her access to jump. Thanks again!
