That is completely understandable why that is disgusting and wrong. However, not everyone who mixes breeds is greedy or bad owners. There are many people that love their animals dearly and make sure their puppies go to wonderful and loving homes. There are many, many purebred AKC pups that come from puppy mills and bad breeders, just as much as mixed breeds do. I don't care what you are breeding as long as you are taking care of your animals and you are placing them responsibly as well.

How in the world could a litter of pups be sold before they are born because no breeder is sure how many pups there are or how many will live once born.
A lot of people want designer dogs because they are so badly misinformed that these are not a breed but a mutt.
if someone wants to buy a mixed breed aka a mutt go ahead but at least know what you are getting.
The OP mentioned a Shih Tzu yorkie mix. I have seen several of these and trust me no two look alike. They can be big small no coat lots of coat, colour variations, and i seldom see a Shih Tzu cross that does not have a very severe underbite to the point of dental issues.

It's called a "very long" waiting list.. They didn't care if they got a male or female, she had very good luck in selling them..

I've seen a lot of different looking yorkies too, some with long coats, some with short coats, some that have cottony hair, some that have silky hair, some that have more pointed noses, some with ears up, some with ears down..??

There are alot of yorkies not bred to the standard so thats why you see so much variation

I had 2 yorkies, they were 1/2 sisters..One of them topped out at barely 5 pounds, her sister that I still have, topped out at almost 14.. Luckily, both of them had their ears up, and nice silky coats. I was just trying to make a point. The lady on here was wanting help to try and find a shorkie, I'm sure she has her own reasons for this..some people want purebreds, some dont'. I'm just saying, a lot of these yorkies I've seen, that are supposedly aren't up to standard, come from great breeders. There are a lot of yorkies that are bigger because of throw backs, like the one I have. I'm thinking the one I've got had huge great grandparents..

I am not sure why I thought I could educate anyone here. I know I can't from past experience except for the odd person that 'gets it'.

Some of the best pets I have ever owned were MUTTS and yes I did pay for some of them. I am in the next few weeks getting another MUTT, I WANTED (yes you read that correctly) a yorkie poodle mix. I wanted qualities from both breeds. Im not sure who said that you never know what your going to get when it comes to mixes,that no 2 are alike well your right and that is part of the reason why I wanted one, cause I cant wait to see what my MUTT is going to grow up to look like and that fact that he will look different than any other dog makes him even more special. Believe it or not some people want mixed breed dogs and there are alot of people on this board that own them.
You can say all you want about people who breed mixed breed dogs are only doing for the money, however Im not seeing a whole lot of purebred dogs being giving away for free, do you?? They can claim all they want that they are doing it to"so call better the breed" however most everyone knows they are also doing it for the money or they wouldnt be doing it.
And to educate you.. there are almost as many purebreds in shelters and rescues as there are mixes. So purebred breeders are just as much at fault for the overpopulation of animals as are "mixed" breeders.
This is my opioin on this matter, Im not trying to start trouble. I do know that there are alot of responsible breeders on this board.

If a bona fine purebred ends up in a shelter here, breed clubs or the breeder themselves when they find out about it, get it out of the shelter. Our Canadian Yorkshire Terrier Assoc. has a rescue that does all sorts of rescues of Yorkies and in some cases Yorkie crosses and no these are not from responsible breeders.
I cannot begin to tell you why I do not make money at all in occasionally selling a pet puppy. And yes I have given away a Yorkie free on a few occasions for various reasons to responsible pet homes.
Don't misunderstand me, I don't care if people want to breed mutts supplying a pet market nor do I care if anyone wants to buy one. As long as the seller is honest about what they are selling and why and the buyer knows what they are getting, go for it in my opinion.
As for this forum having responsible breeders, well you have your opinion, I have mine obviously aren't the same opinion.

LOL...I don't think you will be educating Lorraine on this subject.

From my experience there are many more mix breeds in shelters than purebreds. Although you do see purebreds in the shelters, they are not generally the quality of pets that come from a reputable exhibitor/breeder.....I've yet to find one of those in a shelter. So, once again the problem is over-breeding of any dog type (including those mixes you and others defend), by those that are not doing so for the right reason, which includes the majority here. Most that breed the mixes are not doing so to create a new AKC recognized breed, but are simply trying to cash in on a trend.

I understand where you are coming from, I really do and I agree with you that people shouldnt just breed for the money, my point was that even purebred breeders do it mostly for money, not just mixed breeders. I totally respect those who do it for the right reasons and I know that responsible breeders do not make alot of money. I think its awesome that you have given pups away on occasion and in my eyes that makes you great breeder.
