| Just a quick question I know somewhere in my head I know the answer but it's far away right now. How long after your babies mate does the female start to show signs of pregnancy such as morning sickness? Like I said, my brain is not registering the answer.

| Well, I haven't bred yorkies yet, but with other dogs I have noticed that their vulva will stay swollen and not go down to pre-heat size. I don't know if thats all dogs, but it was with at least one of mine. Also, just a couple of weeks in I have noticed swelling of the teats a little with a general appearance of not feeling great. I have only ever had one dog in my life actually experience morning sickness, and I want to say that was about 3-4 weeks along. Sometimes physical signs are not exceptionally evident though until just a couple of weeks before delivery for some dogs.

| Not all dogs experience any sort of sickness. (Mine never have.) And some females don't show noticeable signs that they are carrying until 10 days or so prior to whelping. If you are sure that the pair got even one good tie during the right time frame, you should plan accordingly as if she IS preggers and if it turns out that she wasn't, then no harm done. |

| It is not unusually for the girl to go off her food and be a little tired about 3 weeks along. Most do not throw up but I have had a couple that did. They usually snap out of that by week 4. By the 5th week, they usually start to develop a little bit of a belly. They will also have a clear or slightly yellowish discharge starting at this time as well. At about 7 weeks you will notice the breast begin to enlarge. Their milk will usually come down 2 to 5 days prior to partition. Keep in mind that Yorkies do not usually read the books on whelping so some do not follow this pattern. If they do not it is not necessarily cause for concern. Years ago, I had a Yorkie named Ariel. If she took after being bred, when I brought her home from the stud's house, she would promptly run to the bed (and I mean mine and hers as we shared) and pee in the middle of the bed! She had three litters and did this on each one!! Was the only time that she did it also!! Best of luck! Charlie |

| Reading through all of the responses triggered my mind to work!!!!!! Have you ever had that happen? When you know the information for other people but when it is your own baby it goes right out the window? I have all of the dates and info of her mating in her file and she will be due the week of oct 14. It's just been a long, well couple of years since we've had any litters here.
