First time stud! :0 Hi! I have a 7 month old male yorkie that i want to use in the future as a stud. He is not a show dog, but has champions on both sides of his ancestry lines. I will be new at this so I was wondering what i need to know, what to ask, as i realize he is not yet "proven". I am just looking for information so i can know how this generally works. Thank you so,so much! Sincerely, Alyssa and my baby Hansi

well, first you need to wait until he is older at least a year. next you need to have him checked for Liver Shunt, Luxating Patella for sure. Some people check for other things but those are the two biggies. Then once he has checked out clear, you need to make sure any female that wants to breed to him is worthy of him. Check her pedigree also and do not breed him to just anything. make sure the female is tested a few days before breeding for STD even if she hasn't been bred before. Dogs can get Burcellouis by sniffing a dog that has it. I'm sure there is more but maybe others will chime in.

That's great to have champions down the line but.....be sure he's a good representation of the breed himself according to the standard setforth by the YTCA at ytca.org . And take your time, search the archives and research. Welcome to YT!
