| Pink on nose...why is this a fault? This may belong in the show section...but I was wondering where a little pink on a yorkie nose comes from...and also if there are any links to it? I couldn't find anything particular. Why is this considered a fault? To give you an example, here's a pic of my Sophie...she's the only one who has any...it's just a little bit of pink coloring blended into the black towards the nostrils. |

| It is a fault because it means there is a lack of pigment....which is a no no. A puppy is supposed to have black nose, eye-lids, etc....and that means it carries enough pigment to give it good colouration. Don't worry about it....my Casper who I bought at 19 months has a NAUGHTY pink stripe on his nose....I knew what it meant when I bought him and didn't ask his previous owner about it as he was bought for being him, not a show-dog....he was dark like the first pic when I got him, but as you can see he has a silvery white coat at 5yrs, which is no surprise considering his nose ! I think it looks quite cute myself. My other two Yorkies are girls and at 7.5yrs and 4 yrs have perfect pigment and perfect colour of coat....but I love them all for being them, and I choose not to show them. Obviously if you are showing you would avoid a pup with poor pigment....and the same if you are breeding to show.....and anyone buying puppies with pink bits should be told it is a fault. Hope this helps...... Debra x x x Casper when I bought him at 19 months Casper now - he is lighter than this though as his coat was clipped here, and it is growing in now and is silvery white. Casper's stripe on his nose ! My Tiny trio - Tara 7.5yrs, Casper 5 yrs, Tammy 4 yrs, > all 4lbs. |

| My Allie had a pink spot on the top of her nose too. I thought it was cute and kind of like her little trademark |

| That's called "Snownose" .... my "ugly" baby has it!! I naturally rushed Toto to the vet when I noticed her nose like this. The vet laughed and explained what it is .... just a loss of pigment. She said not to worry unless it occured in lots of other places such as around her eyes, her mouth or any other place that is supposed to be black. She said all her dogs have it. Here's a pic of Toto's: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...light=Snownose There's an old thread discussing this condition but I can't find it.

Sorry, mine are so full of faults, I can't keep up. So, I have no info for the original poster. However, I just have to remark on that last pic. He looks so proud and holds his head so high. It's "ruff" being the only boy Love the pic!

| Our little puppy has a pinkish nose at 7 days old. Is that normal for pups tho? When we lived in Michigan, our Golden Retriever's nose would turn pink in the winter and back to black in the summer. |

| Conner's nose is black in the summer, and when winter comes, he gets a little pink at the tip. I think it is adorable!!

| Thanks for all the good information... I love the pink on her nose...I think it's her "trademark" too!!! I was just curious why it was considered a fault. She will never be bred or shown...she's AKC but only 3 lbs at 6 months (adult weight is estimated to be around 3.5-4 lbs)...I'm waiting on her baby teeth to do their thing, and then she'll be spayed. I love her all the same...I just had no idea it wasn't a good thing... |

He also has a "special claw" which he hides if I mention it ! ....It is higher up than it should be and hides in his fur, and doesn't reach the ground....he didn't like me to clip it(as it never gets worn down, not being ground level like it should be) so he has now decided that it is better to chew it off himself rather than have the clippers at it....all I hear in bed at night is Casper chewing down his "special claw !" ING ING ING ! He is very much a cheeky character ! ....PINK STRIPED NOSE INCLUDED ! Debra x x x | |
