| My personal preference is AKC. I have heard APRI is good but I think AKC is still the best? Just My Opinion!!!

| AKC is the most recognized. I would think there would be a big difference in price between AKC and APRI.

BANNED! | The time and care is the same, but why pay full price for a non-AKC registered purebred. Those other registeries could very well be registering mixes and have done so in alot of cases. Most ppl would rather pay more for a guaranteed purebreed Yorkie then be given a mix for the same price, so IMO the other registered dogs should be alot less for people who want pet quality and don't care if they are mixed breeds. |

When you search for a new addition, you need to research and buy into the dog itself, the breeder and what they both represent, not buy solely into a piece of paper. Now I'm not saying that your claims regarding the mixing and dishonesty with the other registries are not correct, because they ARE and I realize those registries provide a nice safe haven for millers and the likes, but saying the non-AKC dogs are all mixes or that they are lesser dogs is a very unfair and incorrect blanket statement. Not ALL breeders are that way.

I am in no means saying they are all mixes, because they aren't. I will say that alot of them have been found to be mixes. I also do realize that even AKC is not perfect by any means, but you are IMO more likely to be getting a purebred from AKC then any other registery. You will find dishonesty everywhere and a piece of paper is as good as the breeder it comes from only. It is unfortunate that there are so many ways to corrupt and wiggle ways into making something seem better then it is and that is why even AKC has a suspension list. I am not trying to make a blanket statement as you say I am and I'm sorry if it came across like that. I do realize and am speaking in general only!! All breeders are not the same and thats why its best to screen and ask questions before purchasing any dog AKC or not. Honesty is always the best policy, but not always followed by all.

It took me a while to realize what a big deal it is to some people and why it is something they feel strongly about. Anyway, no harm done...?

Quite frankly, I don't know the first think abotu APRI, having never dealt with them before, but if they are even attempting to host any kind of show or event promoting conformation, that's better than most. I guess for them it's a no win situation. Their CH dogs are a lesser quality so they get crap for it, but if they didn't hold any kind of conformation event, they'd get crap for that too. (And that is not to discredit what you are saying Pat, because I understand your point and a get what you are saying regarding an AKC vs non-AKC Ch.)

| I will say this: I will NEVER again have a dog that is not AKC registered. Not because I have any complaints against the non-AKC breeder I've worked with, not because of an issue with the dogs, but because of all the drama associated with it. It is far too much of a headache and very tiresome to constantly have to defend what you do and believe. Sad, but true... |
