| My Sister's Baby Got Into Rat poision Last night! My sister called me last night to see where she could bring Jax -- This is her first puppy. I asked her why and she told me when mom moved her trash can Jax got behind my mom's stove and got in some rat poision. Where we live you have to call a vet there is not one open 24 hours. Well my quick thinking I told her to give him a tsp. of H proxide to get him to throw up and I told her he would need a vit. K shot. While I was on the phone with her I called my vet -- we use a different vet and hers is hard to get a whole of. My vet told me I did the right thing and to bring him in in the morning for a vit. k shot and some pills. I told them to get rid of the rat poision NOW! My mom called me back about 15 min. later to tell me Jax threw up several times. I told my sister to give him a little nurta Cal and to watch him if she had anymore problems to call me and I would call my vet. I talked to her this morning and he is doing great. Scary if they wouldn't of caught him with it -- it would of killed him. I told her you have to watch these babies like a hawk because I know from mine they are into everything. Hugs.

| OMG all I can say is what a lucky little Yorkie! I hope all goes well with him at the vet's. Rat poison works fast and it's a terrible way for any animal to die. |

| OMG! We had a kitten get into rat poison out in our barn when I was a kid and it's a horrible way to die. Make sure your sister takes him for bloodwork. He could still have liver damage even though he is acting normal. |

| Just want to let everyone know he did not digest any of it -- she caught him as soon as it happen so she wasn't sure if he even ate it -- but I told her to do the H proxide anyway and bring him in to see the vet! Hugs

| Poor little baby. Hope all is well now. That's very scary. They are very quick little guys, like have a 2 year old all the time. They have to be watched.

| Take him to the vet anyways, even if he is doing great. This is near and dear to my heart. I lost a 5 month old Yorkie because he ate rat poison and I didn't even know where he got it from. The baby needs a vitamin K shot and follow up. My vet told me some rat poisons can take up to 3 weeks to 'take effect' and that by that point its too late. I hope and pray that Jax will be ok. It was the worst experience in the world for me to watch my baby throw up blood and die while I pet him helplessly. prayers to your family and Jax! Just make sure she gets him into the vet for the Vitamin K shot!

| This is a Very serious problem Rat Poison works by causing hemorrhagic death meaning that you bleed internally until you die ... it's effects can be delayed sometimes and if the amt taken is small it may cause liver and kidney damage down the line This is a material that should Never Ever be kept in a house with other animals esp small dogs They make rat poison tempting so rats will eat it

| What a scary scenario. I don't keep any poison in the house just for that reason. You just never know what animals are thinking or are doing every second. I am so glad that you knew your first aid and kept your cool. Thank goodness your sis has you! I would definitely keep her vet appointment. Rat poison has so many side effects that you cannot be sure unless testing is done. |
