| In regards to the Copenhagen Zoo/Marius the giraffe incident There is now a petition circulating to relieve the Scientific Director of Copenhagen Zoo of his position after what was done to Marius the giraffe. I'm sure most of you have seen this, but if not, there is a link in the petition to an article regarding the incident. I thought some of you may be interested in signing this! Thanks for your time. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/516/2...agen-zoo/#sign

| This is the most disguisting, unbelievable act of violence I have ever read about. It is beyond the realm of humane reality, what was done to this poor animal.....including the way his body was disposed of. I lived in Copenhagen for 18 months when my father was CEO of Dansk Veedol....these people were kind, generous, peaceful,loving....this is the very last place on earth that I would have expected to hear of something like this taking place.....I can not imagine parents that would bring their children to see the animal skinned and fed to lions......this is not how I remember the Danes.....I know if I wanted MY children to see the raw brutality of Mother Nature, I would take them to the jungle and let them see how cruel and brutal Mother Nature is firsthand. I will gladly sign any petition that would assure no animal in that zoo would ever face such a horrible, UNNECESSARY end to its life. There are so many different avenues that could have been taken in this circumstance.....it would have cost money and that was what was the crux of the problem I am sure...... | And to display the body to the public/children and explain how they gave the giraffe his favorite foot laced with death. Discussing to the nth degree. No regard for life shown here. There are rescues for unwanted animals.

| Horrible. I loved going to the zoo as a child, but now I oppose them. The last time I went to one was a few years ago. I took my nephews to the National Zoo in DC. The conditions of the cages and habitats were deplorable. The animals did not look healthy, especially the larger ones. I don't think it is right to contain animals like lions to such small habitats.

| Unless there's something else to the story, this was a wasteful practice. I love meat, I love to hunt, but, killing this giraffe was a waste. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | OMG ...I'm so flippin' disgusted at human beings right now...who ARE these people and why are they in charge of LIVING breathing creatures????! This was handled barbarically. Yes, nature is nature and I get the "attempt" at demonstrating this, but there is a line where it becomes OBSCENE and they absolutely crossed that line and beyond. Like Kristin, I am opposed to all zoos, sea worlds, circuses etcetera and never attend them or support them. I would rather support sanctuaries and preserves.

| I do support zoos and the like for the exposure they give to live animals, different types. Not everyone can travel to the rock to see Europe's only monkey in the wild. It is important that the animals are well cared for though. Besides being a rare living creature, it is a valuable learning tool. The exposure of people to these animals in zoos, invigorates the awareness of protecting their natural habitat for the remaining animals. This giraffe should have been allowed to go to another zoo unless it had a severe medical issue. |

| They stated it is a common practice in zoos all over the world to stop inbreeding. A reporter asked if children cried while watching and the response was no actually it was the opposite they asked a lot of very good questions. First I would never allow my child to watch it is not the natural progression of how we eat meat...I don't eat giraffe, I do eat meat but I don;t want to see it killed in front of me. Next they stated other facilities were not up to Copenhagen standards so it was best to kill healthy 18 month old Marius and then feed him to lions. Sick is what I call it. May Marius RIP and may those in charge be fired. Below is a petition that is being signed to get them fired. It only had a few thousand signatures when I signed it yesterday and it is not close to 100,000. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/769/6...openhagen-zoo/

| Lots of places wanted to take the young giraffe but no, they preferred to slaughter him - kill him, cut him up and feed him to other wild animals in front of children and onlookers for a show - to garner buzz. Well, I hope this atrocity shows people that zoos are cruel places where wild animals are held in too tiny spaces and not allowed to live normal lives and all for what - our entertainment?????? We don't need zoos for education - we can read all about the animals and see videos to learn more about their lives in the wild than we EVER can seeing them housed behind fences or barriers, peering out at us in captivity without their freedom, unable in any way to live their lives normally and naturally, mate, raise their young, teach them and get to live the joy of the hunt and foraging for their meals. These poor animals are often forced to live their whole lives in climates and weather totally foreign to their natural habitat or comfort zone. I hate zoos and any form of entertainment that forces wild animals to appear and stand around or sometimes actually perform tricks in order to entertain people. We've got all the entertainment we need without subjecting poor wild animals to captivity and living totally against their natures and all thanks to us and our so-called educational needs. And if zoos are our only entertainment or way to "educate" us, it would still be wrong. If we aren't any more enterprising in being able to learn and appreciate the world's animals without keeping wild animals out of their natural habitats in weather often wildly foreign to them and in abject captivity for us to go look at occasionally, we should be ashamed of our lack of resourcefulness. It's sickening and should be criminal what this horrible zoo did to this poor young giraffe with his whole life to live in his natural world. And shame on those that stood there with their children and watched it all! Gross, uncouth and appalling for people pay that horrible zoo money to get in to stand and ogle as a noble young animal with its whole life yet to live being unceremoniously killed for the no reason, dismembered and fed to other animals with their young children standing by watching! If I saw something like that, it would mark me for life, even now! The place should be closed down - period. It's a shameful, gory, wretched place with sick leadership.

| Now I am really sickened learning that other zoos wanted to take the baby giraffe, but the Copenhagen zoo chose to slaughter him anyway. Quote:
Mark, I used to think like you -- the National Zoo gave me a chance as a child to see the pandas up close, but the cost to the animals is too high. I agree with Jeanie, we have enough multimedia today to enjoy seeing these animals and learning about them in their natural habitats.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I hate zoo's and this murder was incomprehensible, there were offers from other Zoo's to take poor Marious, offers I think went up to around half a million so I can only assume he did this for his own sadistic pleasure.
