| Two pit bulls enter our home and kill our dogs... I wanted to share what happened to my family dogs so that others would be aware. My family has had two small terriers. A jack russell named Jackson and a fox terrier named Lucy. Jack was 13, Lucy was 14. They were amazing family dogs who gave us more love and happiness than I ever thought would be possible. Both of our babies were brutally killed on Tuesday night when two pit bulls got into the backyard through a hole in the fence. They followed our two small dogs into the doggie door and chased them down in our home. Luckily, no people were hurt, but we lost both of our dogs. Animal control had been called by a neighbor earlier that day, however they did not come get the pitbulls. The attacks happened between 5 and 7 pm. Animal control would also not come to retrieve the pit bulls because "their 8 hour shift was over". And coming out to our home, where these beasts were running free with the bodies of our babies, would be on their time and they did not want to come. The Houston Police Dept. told us that they would be leaving the dogs IN OUR HOME. Without guard. Until animal control would come out the next day. They told us if anything happened to the pit bulls that WE would be held on animal cruelty charges. If we shot the dogs, it would be a class C misdemeanor. These dogs were on OUR property. These dogs killed OUR dogs. And they were just going to leave them there. We called a local news station and as soon as HPD realized they were coming the dogs were loaded into the back of a patrol car. To top it all off, the dogs had no ID tags. However, if someone did happen to come forward and claim them, the dogs would be able to go back into the neighborhood and keep living and breathing because it is PROPERTY on PROPERTY damage. I am absolutely sick that this has happened to our dogs. They were wonderful wonderful pets and did NOT deserve this. Any thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Hug your babies a little bit tighter tonight. This is a link to the story: Three dogs killed in two separate pit bull attacks over 24-hour period | abc13.com |

| I'm sorry this happened. But if they came into my house I would have shot them myself. IME you can't depend on the authorities all the time. But I would have don't it during the attack because I was afraid for my life. In Texas you can shoot a person on your property but not a vicious dog?? Castle doctrine. | Oh, I am so sorry for this absolute tragedy. I believe I would pursue seeing that those officers were brought up on some type of disciplinary action for wanting to leave such dangerous animals in MY home! That is unconscionable and these officers obviously had no judgment. But if they had left them in my home, I would have shot them just as surely as I'm sitting here had they just broken into my home and killed my babies. I'd be too scared not to for fear I would be their next victim! I am sure you would be next to be attacked if you had not acted pro-actively and gotten some media help! Imagine leaving you at the mercy of those vicious animals overnight because your county Animal Control wasn't available. Usually don't the officers corral dogs like that into the garage, the back yard or something until an emergency Animal Control officer is called out to handle the animals? But leaving you in the home with them is an outrage. Nobody anywhere in Houston PD had access to a catch pole rather than subject your family to potential danger? Your poor babies didn't deserve to go like this. Hopefully the owner of these two beasts can be located and prosecuted, sued and made to pay for their irresponsibility for having such unsecured, dangerous dogs that cost the life of your two babies and a lifetime of pain, trauma & hurt for you. These bully breeds are becoming so prolific in America that stories like this seem to be everywhere. It's a tragic shame people want to own dogs with many breeding strains apparently genetically defective that they can't or won't control.

| So very sorry you lost your babies. Please don`t hate all Pit Bulls. They are not all like that. My daughter has one and it loves her Jack Russell. |

| I was in tears just reading this. Can not tell you how awful I feel for you and your family. Can't believe the lack of responsibility and caring you experience - you were victimized twice! Certainly gives me a low opinion of your part of Texas. It does validate one's belief in being armed ! I pray for healing for you and your family.

| I am soooo sorry. This is beyond sad for you... I really don't know what I would do if it was me. My dh said &^%$ I would have killed the dogs. I am not a pitt bull hater.. but the two that killed your babies are aggressive and should not be someones pet. sending prayers and hugs to your family

| This is such a tragedy....I am soooooooo very sorry for you and your babies. I have many family members that are in various police/constable/sheriff/Texas Rangers....there is a saying...."I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6". I think I would have shot and killed those dogs and then worried about what was going to happen to me...they were on your property and they were clearly a threat to your life, as well as the lives of your pets. Your poor babies paid the ultimate price for these dog's owners negligent behavior. I think it is safe to say there is not a jury in Texas that would convict you for neutralizing these two threats to your lives and the lives of your pets, IN YOUR OWN HOME, or even on your own property!!! |

| So sorry to hear of the terrible tragedy & loss that your family had to face. I want to thank you for sharing your story with us. I have never been fond of "doggy doors" and this story confirms my thoughts..... they are convenient, but if pets can get thru them, so can intruders (of all types). Again, I am sorry.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm so sorry this happened to you, I can't believe they wanted to leave the dogs in your home, that would scare me to death. It's horrible when we can't be safe in our own homes. My heartfelt condolences. If no one is claiming ownership, I wonder if the dogs could be involved in dog fighting?
