Two pit bulls enter our home and kill our dogs...

Thank you all for your support and thoughts. It makes my heart feel a little better knowing others are aware of what happened to my babies.

My yorkie and Jackson were very close- they would play together and swim together often. I'm sad that they won't be able to play anymore.

Sec. 822.013. DOGS OR COYOTES THAT ATTACK ANIMALS. (a) A dog or coyote that is attacking, is about to attack, or has recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowls may be killed by:
(1) any person witnessing the attack; or
(2) the attacked animal's owner or a person acting on behalf of the owner if the owner or person has knowledge of the attack.
(b) A person who kills a dog or coyote as provided by this section is not liable for damages to the owner, keeper, or person in control of the dog or coyote.
(c) A person who discovers on the person's property a dog or coyote known or suspected of having killed livestock, domestic animals, or fowls may detain or impound the dog or coyote and return it to its owner or deliver the dog or coyote to the local animal control authority. The owner of the dog or coyote is liable for all costs incurred in the capture and care of the dog or coyote and all damage done by the dog or coyote.
(d) The owner, keeper, or person in control of a dog or coyote that is known to have attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowls shall control the dog or coyote in a manner approved by the local animal control authority.
(e) A person is not required to acquire a hunting license under Section 42.002, Parks and Wildlife Code, to kill a dog or coyote under this section.

Thank you Verbena, for this INVALUABLE information! I certainly do hope EVERYONE prints out a copy of this and puts it in a place for quick and easy reference....like in the cabinet where they keep their gun that they will use to prevent this horrific incident from ever happening to another family pet or child, in the Great State of Texas!

NOW! With the information Verbena posted, I think I would be at HPD, asking a few questions about how things were handled in your situation....you DID sustain damages that the attacking dogs owners are legally responsible for making right. and if those dogs were kept isolated for 24-36 hours, without food, I bet when you turned them loose, they would lead you right back to where they live! And where THEY live, you will find the owners!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I just really dont have the words right now to express how i feel. I am terrified of pitt bulls because a mean one lives behind us and head butts the fence trying to break through into our yard. There are also two pitt bulls on each side and they attack the fence every time we go in our back yard. I am so afraid of them. This really breaks my heart.

If the owners of the pitbulls are found, I would definitely pursue a civil suit against them. They need to be responsible.

I seriously doubt they will come forward now that they've been on the news. But trust me, I would. And after seeing what our home looked like after the face, any judge would rule in our favor.

I actually adore pitties, I have one, (recently had to put down the other at the age of 14 R.I.P) but pit bulls like them give our dog a bad name.

SOME, not all but some, are genetically DOG agressive (not human agressive! They were bred to fight dogs and to be very human friendly so that the people fighting them wouldnt be attacked)
If they are in close relation to recently fought dogs, then they may be genetically agressive. However, since dog fighting has been outlawed, it is less common to find them genetically this way.
Due to their high prey drive, when owners do not socialize them from a young age, unfortunately, this is what happens.

I'm like Yorkiemom1 - why didn't Houston Police Department officers answering your call for help know this law unless it's restricted to certain settings, locations or situations? The danger those officers were willing to leave you in is still astounding to me! I would be sitting in the Chief of Police's office one day soon and work down from there, ending up with those officers' supervisor!
