| No-Kill Shelters....An Idea whose Time Has Come? For too many animals, the local shelter is the end of the road. Millions die each year in 'shelters'. There are far too few no-kill shelters in our country, but the movement to go no-kill is picking up steam. Solutions are being found, often with wonderful results. I posted this link in another thread but would like to share it here. Shelter Achieves No-Kill! This is an issue that we can all be involved in on a local level. I urge everyone to become acquainted with the issues...problems and solutions. We don't have to accept business as usual at our local shelters. Animals are dying every day due largely to a lack of will or information on how to do better. There is more on this in the Yorkie News and Site Announcements forum. Here's the link to that thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...cats-dogs.html Thanks for reading and it would be great if you can dig up any success stories and share them. Each success shows that no-kill not only can, but is being achieved.

| Declaration of the No Kill Movement Declaration of the No Kill Movement in the United States If you click on the link, you can sign the no kill declaration. While you're there, click on some of the links to become more acquainted with the no kill movement. There is a good resource library you can click on and a free e-newsletter you can subscribe to. Also, here's the link for Best Friends no kill resource page: Best Friends Animal Society - No Kill I think these links will serve as a good primer for those interested in the no kill movement. I am in the learning stage about this myself, but find that I'm growing more passionate and optimistic about the possibilities that a nation-wide no kill mindset can bring. Solutions are being found that are being shown to work, sometimes with amazing results. With millions of healthy animals being killed each year, we owe it to them to re-think the role of animal shelters in our communities. This is an urgent issue as thousands die with each passing day. Solutions are out there that are working and there are ways for us all to be a part of that solution. Please take the time to sign the declaration and to find out what you can do to promote no kill at your local shelter.
