I rescued Lilly who is 8 y/o and was a puppy mill rescue, then in foster care until I adopted her. I was told there were other dogs in the house and she had been in foster care for about 2 months. She has no idea about housebreaking at all. I bought the wee-wee pads and she walks over them as if they weren't there at all. I work during the day and she stays in my garage with my black lab who is 12 y/o. She poops in the same place and if I put a pad there, she moves to another area of the garage but not on a pad. I blotted up some of her pee with the pad hoping to attract her to it, but it didn't work. I also put some of her poop on the pad, and that didn't work either. I have about 10 pads set up all over the garage, including one by the back door into the yard. The garage is heated, there is a light and a radio on, toys, a huge round bed, and food and water. I know it's only been a few days, but I don't even see any inkling of cooperation from her. I thought the pad had an attractant to dogs that would lure them to the pad. Apparently nobody told Lilly! I've housebroken puppies before on the pads in a few days.

I take her outside when I get home from work and she does her business but then I find fresh little puddles in the garage again - and of course not on the pads. I want to be able to have her in the house with me all the time, but until she's housebroken, I have to watch her very closely and keep her more confined than I want to. I was also thinking of panties, but I want to be consistent and not add another element of confusion to the program we have in place.

She's the sweetest, little girl and will let you do anything to her including look at her teeth and clean her eyes. She lays very still in my lap and obviously that where she wants to be all the time. I'm glad I've got Lilly and I'll be patient and loving and hope some day she'll surprise me and use her pads.
