Yorkies with Babies My husband and I have had our dog Dewey for about 3 years. In that time he's def. been the baby, and hasn't had to compete with anyone or anything else. Our friend had a baby about a year ago, and Dewey's behavior was HORRIBLE around the little thing! He yelps a yelp you wouldn't believe b/c he wants to get to the baby so bad. Our friend doesn't live close, so Dewey only had to be around him from time to time, most times Dewey ended up in another room, locked away from the baby. The baby is a year old now, and dewey is doing better...but only if the baby is on the floor with him. If someone picks up the baby, Dewey freaks out and jumps up at the baby, nipping at the baby's feet or just trying to jump on top of him. Last night he bit my sisters 10 week old little boy on the elbow, b/c the baby started crying and she picked him up. I don't think Dewey is doing this to hurt the baby, but since my Husband and I are expecting a baby of our own in only 7 weeks, I really need some advice on what I can do to change Dewey's behavior! I've tried giving treats for good behavior, disciplining bad behavior, but nothing seems to work for us! |
