Default Go Natural!

My 2 year old was scratching from the day I brought him home. I have changed foods (all natural or organic super-premium) 7 times! I have spent hundreds of dollars on topicals, shampoos, herbals, anti-oxidants, vitamins, fatty acids, and yes, Missing Link made him more itchy. I have had complete blood work done numerous times, and have had him allergy tested just 2 weeks ago (results not in yet). Blood work cannot detect a food allergy, only intradermal testing can.

Poor guy, my heart was breaking. I had always mixed fresh cooked meats and veges in his dry food, and used 95% meat (Innova Evo RM) wet food, too.

At my wit's end, I bought 10 books on Amazon.com about natural food diets and holistic health. What the heck, I needed to do something else and fast. He would even stop playing to scratch, itch on walks, and shake the whole bed at night.

Very long story short: I threw out all the commercial dog food, treats, etc. and started cooking for him and his brother (not for my husband of twenty years, and there is a little jealousy!). They have ORGANIC steak, chop meat, pork chops, all types of veges (well cooked or grated), DISTILLED WATER, and lots of olive oil. They drink the cooking water of all the veges. They no longer have any GRAINS, DOGS DO NOT NEED GRAINS, NOR CAN THEY EASILY DIGEST THEM. They have instead, lentils, beans, potatoes.

I used to give them yogurt and cottage cheese. I stopped all dairy except for eggs. I stopped all supplements and give olive oil and human "PROBIOTICS", the REFRIGERATED kind, shelf stored ones are not active cultures.

It's been 8 days, they have had a variety of foods, and guess what????
80% OF THE ITCHING HAS STOPPED!!! It's a miracle to us! Diet does have everything to do with health.

My books said to calm a nervous dog down first to let the healing begin. I have spent tons on calm down pills and bisquits and liquids, and I threw them all out after CHAMOMILE TEA worked right away!

I am keeping them away from all poulty also, because when it was in a treat or their previous commercial foods, I felt it made them itch more.

Homemade diets need calcium supplementation. NO BONE MEAL HERE. I can't trust the source. Making my own calcium supplement from baked organic eggshells ground in a coffee grinder.

As I learn more about a balanced homemade diet, I will decide if my boys need any further supplementation, and it will be all organic.

It doesn't take long to cook 2 meals a day for them. I love doing it and love the results. After all, a package can say anything it wants to, but I'm not at the factory to see what really goes in the food. This way, I am sure.

We are going to Whole Foods Market tomorrow to buy organic meats, (I hope they have fresh buffalo), organ meats, beans, different oils (unrefined walnut this time) and small amounts of lots of fresh veges, especially dark leafy ones.

I hope someone else will benefit from my story and a "Mommy's Efforts" for her little furangels. The internet is full of advice and recipes for a homemade diet.
Just do a search. You may be inspired. We all love them soooooooo much. I could never eat the same thing day after day or out of a bag. I hope all our babies will be blessed with loving parents, fresh foods, a great vet, fun and exercise, health and longevity, and YORKIE YAKKERS LIKE US!!!
