Out at San Antonio's Army Residence Community, Archie the Yorkshire terrier is quite a "military hero."
The little dog resides with the William Wakeland family in their retirement cottage and has been trained to watch the world go by at the window without barking. Never known to disobey orders, Archie surprised everybody the other morning when he pulled rank and started raising a ruckus.
Retired Navy Capt. Wakeland's stern commands failed to silence the dog, so Wakeland finally investigated and saw that his neighbor, retired Army Maj. Gen. Herbert Schulke, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, had fallen by the road and couldn't get up.
Thanks to Archie's persistence, Schulke got the help he needed in time and suffered no ill from the spill. And instead of being disciplined and sent to the brig, the canine hero got a treat and a hug.
