Duffy hurt Night before last, my husband and I decided to go out to eat. (I was too tired to cook). Duffy, our Westie, had been outside, so we called him in and immediately left. When we came back approx an hour later, Jasmine and Murphy were there by the door to greet us, but no Duffy. He was laying in the family room. Jasmine kept running over to him and barking and then back to me. She acted aggitated. I walked over to Duffy and there was a lot of blood under his head and then I noticed another big spot of blood in another place. When I tried to open his mouth, he growled and snapped at me. I have had pets all my life, so I know sometimes if they are hurt & hurting they will do that. I tried to call our vet who is the only vet in town, but no answer. I gave him a little water, washed him off and could see the blood was coming from his mouth. He finally let me look in his mouth a little, but I couldn't see much.
I watched him all evening. He stopped bleeding but was very quiet.
Yesterday morning, first thing, Bill took him to the vet. She said he had cut his mouth and tongue on something, but would be alright.
He is always chewing on something. You never know what you might find him chewing on. He must have cut it up pretty bad to bleed as much as he did. I still haven't been able to get all the blood out of my carpet. He seems to be fine today. I made him some hamburger and rice last night because I thought it would be easy to eat. A Doctor I used to work for said the mouth was very fast healing.
I am amazed at how my babies seem to look out or one another. Jasmine seemed to sense that something was wrong with Duffy. She seemed to be trying to tell me and was upset.
Since the day Jasmine ran down to the road, Duffy hovers over her if she even tries to go out the door. He corrals her back in.
They like my granddaughters Yorkie, Murphy. They play with him and have a good time, but they don't seem to have the bond with him that they do with each other. |
