Ruger feels bony but he has so much hair he looks just fine. Vet says he's fine also and he weighs in at 12 lbs. Personally, I would let the vet and the scale be your guide, but when I pet other healthy dogs they all seem bony.
Have you ever hosed your dog down for a bath? There ain't a lot of dog there without all the hair.
