Pulling ear hair is really easy. Ear powder gives you a better grip. It doesn't hurt but some dogs don't like you messing with their ears anyway. Just be aware you just pull out the hair comming up from the ear canal not hair growing here and there in their ears. My yorkie doesn't have any and most yorkies I groom have very little as well so you may not need to. Hair in the ear canals tends to trap bacteria and causes ear infections. Mostly a problem in breeds with flopped down ears like poodles, labs and golden retrievers If your yorkies ears are up it is probably not much of a problem.
