Aw, he's missing his Daddy. Poor baby. No doubt he's grieving his loss but over time, he will come around and accept his new life. Dogs adjust to bad things just like we do. Sounds like you are helping to redirect his expectations at homecoming time, etc., and that will start to help - that & time.
