I agree with a few of the above... your pup needs to be close to the rest of the family. its a big scary world out there so imagine if you were a few pounds big. your pup may have been ok at first, but like people, we go through stages of fear. stage or not, you pup is too young to be all alone in a big scary kitchen. creepy for a great many humans as well. add in some ears that hear a bit more little creeks and noises, and a nose that smells even the slightest change in the environment, and its even that much scarier.
as far as water? don't agree at all. sure, the later a dog drinks, the earlier a dog pees, is true.... but how would you feel if you were thirsty and locked up?
try the crate in a place close to you guys first. you might be surprised.
so you know, we almost never have to put Dickie in his crate. he loves it and goes when he is ready or just needs a break( after a few weeks if crate training).
I can tell,though, that his only concern is that he is close to us.
if I put that crate in another room.....crazy. if it's in our room....sleeps like a baby. don't think for a minute they can't smell how far away you are...
