This is not ment to stir up controversy. This was the answer I got, when I ask this person why they after years of breeding Yorkies, they were now breeding mixed designer type dogs " I did not breed my Yorkies for pets. Mine were show dogs. If a puppy was rejected, then they became pets. People buy Yorkies for the look, they want a small, long haired beauty. They know nothing about the probems that affect the breed, or if they do, they think it will not happen to their dog. I did everything I could to breed for beauty and health. I tested for every thing I could. But, Yorkies are living creatures and have been selectivly breed for so long, it is like a copy, of a copy, of a copy. We have achieved the look but what is the price ? I wanted to breed small dogs that were healthy." She laughed here and said, "If they really want a dog that is affordable, doesn't need a special diet, is easy to care for, no groomer needed, with few health problems, easy to train, easy to housebreak, loveable, loyal and long lived ? I tell them to go to the pound, pick a brown mixed breed dog, that is about 25 lbs full grown. That brown mutt will not need baby teeth pulled, get liver shunt disease, be allergic to anything, get bad knees, hips, hypoglycemia, collapsed trachea or have pancreas problems. If they still want a puppy after my speech, I let them adopt one."
