Yes, the quick will slowly shrink back... you can take off about 1/16 almost every 3-4 days. When you look at the nail, the quick should look slightly indented, or the nail will appear to have grown a bit past the quick.
I take slivers off at a time, or use a grinder like Pedi-paws, until I see a definite circle with a black spot in it...that is the quick. I use regular flour to stop any bleeding, as it doesn't burn like styptic products do.
Then I recheck in 3-4 days and redo any that the quick has shrunk back on. One of my dogs hates her nails fooled with, so I only do 2-3 toes a day on her.... she's getting better about it. |
