I don't know how long you leave him alone, or how long it's been since he's eaten, but it sounds like his tummy gets too empty to me. My girl will throw up bile when she's been hungry too long. I'm home though so I feed 3 times a day minimum and sometimes more, but small amounts. When I was working I left plenty of dry food down for snacks as needed. Hope this helps.
