The no kids part I understand, especially with one as young as 3 months. Other dogs is really a case by case.
A friend of mine has 5 and 4 year old girls. In our visit they weren't exactly gentle with my then 6 lb boy. I tried my hardest to get the girls to sit before allowing him near them, but they're kids. They have short attention spans. 6 lbs (or his now 7) isn't big at all, and they were able to carry him, and when they were mean, trip him as he was trying to get away. He now can't stand kids. Their golden however was more equip to handle their rough play. There are breeders that will adopt to people with kids, but most won't.
Have you considered a larger breed dog for those kids?
