If your fiance is not losing his temper, I think it's just a matter of educating him. It wasn't so long ago that hitting dogs with a rolled up newspaper was a matter of course, so I don't find it so shocking that someone would still do this.

As everyone has said, most dogs consider paper to be a fabulous toy. Imagine that your dog was a toddler and every piece of paper was instead a piece of candy. Your toddler would be scouring the floors trying to find every piece he could. This is how paper is for your puppy.

I agree that teaching her Leave It / Drop It is a great way to go, but I still discover ripped up tissues from time to time, and my dog is almost 3 years old.
