aggressive puppy A friend of mine despite me insisting on her going to a breeder purchased a 2 lbs female yorkie puppy at a local pet store. She has had the dog for about 3 wks and dropped her off today for me to babysit her.
Well I was shocked. I've never seen a 3 1/2 month old puppy that's aggressive. She will bare teeth and growl and bite if given the chance. She doesn't do this out of fear but when she doesn't get her way. She will play and be social but if you try to hold on to her and she wants to go somewhere she will yelp as if you're hurting her and try to bite. She will attack (yes attack) you if she sees a comb in your hand.
I talked to my friend about it when she came to pick the puppy up and she told me she hasn't been able to bathe the dog since she got it for fear of getting bitten. She took it to the groomer who almost refused to groom the dog because she bite him. Not to mention that the owner's hand has multiple scars from the puppy biting her. But she doesn't want to return the dog because she thinks she was abused.
I don't know if she's this way because of being abused or not having enough time with her mother after being weaned. I'm lost for words in my 2 years of volunteering at an animal shelter and having raised two yorkies of my own (1 of which i rescued as an unsocialized 8 month old that spent her whole life forgot in the backyard of a backyard breeder) I've never seen a puppy this young show true "dominance" aggression.
I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips or thinks this can be fixed. I can only imagine if she's this way now how she'll act when shes an adult.
