Hi, Welcome to the group.. I will tell you what I know and have learned from experience.
I have several yorkies.. some are yappy, some are not. some are very hyper and others very calm. It really depends on the parents disposition I think.. Your breeder should be able to tell you what kind of disposition the puppy has.
I have 1 shih tzu male.. He is the sweetest most loving little dog.. He's not barky at all. Very quiet, however my daughter has a girl shih tzu that is very hyper and yappy.. so I guess it all boils down to their inherited disposition. The shih tzu coat is a LOT more maintance than the yorkie. I can brush my shih tzu and he gets snarls overnight.even in his puppy cut.. now I know why so many people cut down their shih tzu coat.
Each breed has their own health issues. I've heard a lot of people say the males are sweeter than females.. of any breed.
