Rowdy was about 80% potty trained when we got a doggie door (4 & 1/2 mo. old). It didn't help at all, at first. He was still having an accident or two everyday. Whenever I could, I would go outside with him and when he went potty, I would praise praise praise him and FINALLY, after about a week or two, he suddenly started going outside to potty all the time - no more accidents. However, just this past week I started letting him go into other parts of the house (while we are home) and I started finding potty spots in other parts of the house. So, I"ve started back with the heavy praise when he goes outside. I would keep up the praise, some say to ignore the accidents(when you see them) but I always let him know I don't approve when I see him going inside (I just use that stern voice and say "NO" "NO" and pick him up and take him outside). When I don't see him and just find the potty spot, then I ignore it. Some people try treats when they potty where they are supposed to - I didn't do this but my mom did with her daschaund and it worked well.
