Your vet is right. Puppies get natural immunities from nursing their mothers. Actually, those first shots often kill any remaining immunities the puppy may have and leave him completely unprotected.

That's why it's so important not to take your puppy into any places where other dogs go like grooming salons, pet stores, dog parks and common areas where other dogs are walked until your puppy has had his full set of shots, usually around four months.

Parvo especially is deadly for puppies. We had a family here this past summer who lost their two Pomeranian puppies to parvo. The puppies had had two shots and their owners thought they were protected.
