I have to admit when I first got him home I was worried this was going to be extremely difficult (Well, I also had a horrible cold which made everything a lil' harder!) Going into this I felt so prepared and ready and knew how I was going to deal with training, etc, and the first few days my mind went blank!
He must have just been shy/scared to go potty because he held it a long time (after peeing in my bedroom twice, but no accidents since Friday morning). I give him a tiny piece of a canine carryout everytime he pees or poops, and I say "all done???" and he goes running to the door.
I have a petyard XT (using only 4 sides for now) that I keep him in if I can't be in the room/have to shower/etc., and he has his potty pad in one corner, food & water in the other, a tiny baby bed &blanket and tons of toys in the rest of the area. He loves to cuddle up and take naps with his Bobo (loooong weiner dog toy from petco...I think it's called a loofah dog toy?) He will sit on his potty pad and spin in circles and make little barking noises and then I take him out right away. Maybe i'm just wanting to believe he's catching on so soon, but he seems to know when to go outside. He doesn't have free roam of the house yet but we are slowly gaining access to the rest of the house!
I'm sure i'll be asking for more help SOON! If you guys don't mind, could you tell me how long it took to completely train your dog to the point you could trust 'em to stay at home alone? I'm using lots of patience and don't expect him to get it down even within the nextmonth. Just wondering how everybody's time frame differs in terms of training their baby. Thanks! |
